Brick and Mortar Stores Heading Toward A Holiday Bonanza for 2016? ShopperTrak Says So

The retail sales reports are starting to come in, and it looks like the brick and mortar retail stores did well for the month of November 2016, much better than last year. Although ShopperTrak reports that in-store retail sales declined considerably in 2015, they more than offset the decline with a substantial increase in online sales.

All the indicators point to the "rebound" in the economy as the reason for the sales increase. While the term "rebound" is used pretty loosely amongst economists, the combination of less expensive gas and energy prices, along with a lower unemployment rate, has seemingly boosted consumer confidence. 

What does this all mean to the small business owner? The report by ShopperTrak mentions the big retail stores but provided no details regarding small business retailers. Typically, small business retail operations do not have online sales. Therefore, given the fact that in-store sales decreased in 2015, we would expect that the small businesses did not fare as well as the retail giants.
